Reset - A Dance Short Film
"RESET" Conceptualised and Directed by Arudhra Krishnaswamy Reset is a piece co-created by me and the dancers that explores humankind's broken relationship with Nature. It examines a series of oppositions that represent this relationship by constantly shifting between circularity and linearity, freedom and captivity, harmony and dissonance, support and manipulation, peace and chaos, rising and falling, silence and noise, trust and deceit, life and death. Beginning the journey of life as a new-born; finding new sensations, new smells and sights and hoping to find stability in the feet, in perfect harmony with Nature and with other beings. Moving from a state of support and connection, it shows humankind's ability to manipulate and sabotage. It captures the energy of a free sentient being positioned against one that is caged, a free agent vs a victim of captivity. It addresses the dangerous driving spirit of civilization that is greed, the greed for power/superiority which results in oppression, destruction and division. This piece shows how greed very often becomes an effective catalyst for the creation of a form of power that does not help you rise but one that stands alone in imbalance with no sense of harmony. It undermines our dependence on the provider and chooses to dismantle it. Reset finally brings us to our current state of loss, a loss of home, habitat, a sense of being and balance. Reset is a reminder of the power of the Earth and our need to restore our relationship with it. Goodbye - Apparat
Fear of impermanence. Fear of loss. Fear of not belonging. Fear of the unknown. . Offerings of empathy, trust, vulnerability and love can battle some of our biggest fears. This became the motivation for this piece. To find the extraordinary in the ordinary, richness in simplicity. . . Elevated - RKCB
Even with the brightest color I could never change your mind We could never find each other Caught between the black and white Dedicated to a special person I used to know. Sometimes, life does not go as planned. Sometimes, things elevate over you. Life elevates over you and all you can do is stop, breathe and keep moving forward. I strongly believe that just because the past did not turn out the way you wanted it to, does not mean the future cannot be better and brighter than you've ever imagined. Life is way more than that which fails. It is about that which keeps you going. This piece is my personal story and I cannot thank these dancers enough for being part of something so close to my heart. Thank you so much for making time to do this. SO GRATEFUL! They learnt a 3 min piece in just 2 rehearsals!! You guys are awesome.Thank you too for giving your inputs here and there with regards to layering, formations and direction. Appreciate it from the bottom of my heart :) This video was not about perfect presentation. Didn't aim for anything fancy. It was about telling an honest story and keeping it personal. Thank you so much, Richard for making time for us and breathing life into the ideas in my head. You are amazing!! A reminder to myself and to everyone that "Things may not always go as planned but they always end up as they should" - Author Unknown. Hope you like it. Thank you so much for watching! Islands - Young the Giant
I was recently introduced to this song and since the first time I heard it, I wanted to work on it and do something with it. Decided to dance it with these two absolutely amazing girls who made it look better than I had imagined it. To most people, this song may seem like its about unrequited love and about not being able to let yourself into someone else's life. But to me this song is about hope and about finding the courage to let go and move on instead. It is about coming to terms with the reality and not letting it bring you down. It is about strength. About sunrise. About new horizons. Coz it is during tough times that we need to remind ourselves that it is out of difficulty, that miracles grow :) :) So keep the faith and smile!! Hope you enjoy the video! Thank you for watching!! Choreography by Arudhra Krishnaswamy
